A brand champion doesn\u2019t just have to be one person.<\/p>\n<h2>Types of brand champions<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Business owner,<\/li>\n<li>Marketing manager,<\/li>\n<li>PR officer, or<\/li>\n<li>Social media influencer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this article, we\u2019ll look at how these different people can become brand champions.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The brand champion business owner<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>More than anything, a business owner \u2013 especially a <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalschoolofmarketing.co.za\/blog\/what-can-pr-do-for-a-small-business\/\">small business owner<\/a> \u2013 fits the description of a brand champion. He or she \u2013 nine times out of ten \u2013 will have started the business in question. Thus, they will do anything that they possibly can to make the business succeed. As such, they will use all their connections to make sure that the brand is promoted as far as their networks allow them to.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The marketing manager<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The marketing manager is someone who is hired by the business in order to help promote the brand.\u00a0 First of all, they will devise a brand and marketing strategy. This is a roadmap of how they feel that it will be best for the brand to be promoted.<\/p>\n<p>This strategy will look at, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the business objectives?<\/li>\n<li>What are the brand values?<\/li>\n<li>Who is the business\u2019 target market?<\/li>\n<li>What is the buyer persona?<\/li>\n<li>What channels are to be used for <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalschoolofmarketing.co.za\/blog\/what-are-the-basics-of-digital-marketing\/\">marketing<\/a> the business?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-video align_none ratio_16x9 has_iframe\"><div class=\"w-video-h\"><iframe title=\"Vimeo video player\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/329105972?autoplay=0&loop=0&autopause=0&color=00adef&portrait=0&byline=1&title=1&controls=1&muted=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><\/div><div class=\"w-video-icon\" style=\"font-size:1.5rem;background:rgba(0,0,0,0.5);color:#fff\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h2><strong>The PR officer as brand champion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalschoolofmarketing.co.za\/blog\/how-pr-can-outflank-your-competitors\/\">PR<\/a> officer is someone in the business who is responsible for developing and promoting the company\u2019s reputation out in\u00a0 the media. His or her job will be two-fold:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They will be responsible for developing relationships with the media and maintaining these so that these media houses will be more likely to publish the press and media releases that the company distributes.<\/li>\n<li>Secondly, the PR officer is responsible for putting together the articles that will be distributed in the media. If this employee doesn\u2019t have capacity to do this, he or she will most likely outsource this function to a freelance writer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Social Media Influencer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalschoolofmarketing.co.za\/blog\/social-media-influencer\/\">Social media influencers<\/a>, as a profession, are quite new to the digital marketing scene. As such, they are struggling to gain recognition as professionals and not just hobbyists who like to play around with social media.<\/p>\n<p>However, a professional social media influencer is exceptional at their job. Their mandate is to get as much engagement as they can for a particular brand or event on social media. As such, before the event, they will meet with the marketing manager and entire brand team to find out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What the brand is promoting<\/li>\n<li>What the value of this event\/product is<\/li>\n<li>Why people would benefit from this product<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They will then use their particular networks and promote the brand.<\/p>\n<p>What marketing managers need to know, when selecting social media influencers, is that they need to be very careful about choosing an influencer who is in keeping with their particular brand. For example, if you\u2019re a make-up brand \u2013 and are trying to promote a new shade of lipstick \u2013 don\u2019t choose an influencer who is particular influential on the food scene.
