It was <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalschoolofmarketing.co.za\/the-different-types-of-ads-you-can-run-on-facebook\/\">Facebook<\/a> who forked out the one billion dollars to acquire Instagram in 2012 and six years later it\u2019s the fastest-growing social media platform in the world.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 Instagram opened itself to advertisers and ever since brands have been advertising on the platform with huge success.<\/p>\n<p>As Facebook owns Instagram, you can run the exact same ad objectives on Instagram as you can on Facebook. In this article we take a look at what ads these include.<\/p>\n<h2>Instagram ads<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h2><strong> Image Ads <\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Instagram started as a photo-sharing app and, for a long time, this was all you could do on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>With that said it\u2019s not hard to imagine why image ads are the most popular and also the most effective:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You would think that video and carousel ads would trump image ads but the fact is image ads outperform video and carousel ads nine out of ten times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h2><strong> Carousel Ads<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Instagram launched carousel ads in 2017 and it\u2019s very similar to Facebook\u2019s carousel ads.<\/p>\n<p>However, like we mentioned above, carousel ads are not that effective when it comes to the Instagram platform. Experts believe it\u2019s because users are used to swiping up and down more than they are swiping left and right.<\/p>\n<p>On Facebook, carousel ads work extremely well, however, this is because one can see that there are more than one picture in a sequence. This automatically tells the user\u2019s brain there is more to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>On Instagram this is not the case. For that reason carousel ads are not as effective as they are on the Facebook platform.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-video align_none ratio_16x9 has_iframe\"><div class=\"w-video-h\"><iframe title=\"Vimeo video player\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/304609734?autoplay=0&loop=0&autopause=0&color=00adef&portrait=0&byline=1&title=1&controls=1&muted=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><\/div><div class=\"w-video-icon\" style=\"font-size:1.5rem;background:rgba(0,0,0,0.5);color:#fff\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h2><strong> Story Ads<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Instagram stories are becoming more and more popular. Experts believe that majority of Instagram users will be looking at stories more so than their own feeds in the next year or two.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the main reasons why stories are such an attractive ad placement.<\/p>\n<p>The only thing about story ads that can be a bit frustrating though is that the ad placement only allows videos up to 15 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>However, Instagram has made some major adjustments. This means that you can now show a standard square ad in stories as well. This didn\u2019t exist before and it meant that if you didn\u2019t have a video under 15 seconds then you couldn\u2019t place your ad in other user\u2019s story feeds.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h2><strong> Story Carousel Ads <\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Similar to carousel ads, you can also run story carousel ads of up to three frames.
